Since 1908, the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires has offered its opera-hungry population performances worthy of any great house of Europe. Its wealth of recordings has recently begun to emerge and we are delighted to be able to offer here an introduction to the standard Italian repertoire. We could only sample those recordings on this disc and hope to offer still more from the Italian repertoire and similar selections from the comparably rich body of performances in French, German and other traditions.
