I offended someone today - and I'm sorry. He wanted to send me a game he plays to find out why his sound card is misbehaving. Unfortunately:
1. I don't play games
2. I don't run his OS (Win95)
3. I don't run unlicensed software. Now, he thought it would be reasonable for me to install a Win95 system, drop my scruples and install his game, learn to play it, install it on a system with a different sound card and tell him why a card which is reported to be poor for games - is poor for games. He informed me in no uncertain terms that I was being arrogant and self-centered when I politely declined his offer.
Right.
I am happy to do what I can to help individuals solve problems with CD-R and related matters. However, that is not my life. You are free to hire a consultant for any job which requires extensive effort; I trust that you will leave me free to get my own work done.
Among my rules is a simple one: I do not rewrite the primer for each person who will not read it. If the information is already on the INet and (presumably) accessible, I point to it, I do not repeat it. There comes a stage in the growth of every child when he or she is given a spoon and taught how to use it instead of being fed by the parent. One reason is simply that the child will need to be fed again.
If you are not offended by my arrogant attitude and insistence on giving priority to my own work and my own life, you are free to e-mail me at cdrecording@mrichter.comwith your observations. I will be delighted to hear from you and to do whatever I can to help you get the most out of your system.
