Three volumes of "Great Voices of the Opera" are offered for sale at http://www.zweitausendeins.de/ Each inexpensive volume has forty CDs with no recognizable basis for selection or for assignment to a box.An artist may be granted a single selection or two full CDs; in many ensembles, only one singer is identified. Documentation is sparse and inaccurate. Still, it is a treasure trove and a challenge even to the most knowledgable.
For those who are curious, I have tried to compile a list of artists with their location in the sets. In the table below, the Set/Disc column gives the volume followed by the number of the pair of discs on which the singer may be heard. Sorry about the format; it's the easy way for me.

The performances are from 1930-1950 and largely offer a single cast for the excerpts of each work. The documentation is essentially useless - unless you find one paragraph on Mozart sufficient for the four operas excerpted here.
